Over 160 guests joined us for the Collections Open House & Rum Party on May 16, 2018. This annual event is one of the Museum’s most important fundraisers with proceeds supporting our efforts to collect, preserve, and share USS Constitution artifacts. This year’s theme was “Face-to-Face” which featured portraits from our collection of the men and women whose legacies of service and courage define USS Constitution, along with their personal possessions such as journals and letters that help tell their stories.
Featured portraits included Commodore Isaac Hull and children who served aboard USS Constitution like 8-year-old George Sirian and 12-year-old John Thomas Jeffferson, and crew members and their wives. A portrait of Thomas John Chew, purser aboard “Old Ironsides” in 1812, was also on display. This generous gift was donated by descendant Abby Chew Williams who joined us for this special event.
Throughout the evening guests enjoyed and voted on their favorite cocktail from Alden & Harlow, Lion’s Tail, and Rail Stop who competed for top honors during the 8th annual Privateer Rum Challenge. Lion’s Tail won the crowd with their aptly named “Wash Ashore Punch.” The fun continued as guests took their own portraits with an animated photo booth provided by BostonGIF.
