Hefferton’s place and date of birth are unknown.

Seaman Edward Hefferton enlisted on June 24, 1812 and joined Constitution ’s crew at Annapolis, Maryland on July 3, 1812. He left the ship sometime after February 17, 1813.

Battles and Engagements

Hefferton participated in the battles with HMS Guerriere on August 19, 1812 and HMS Java on December 29, 1812, receiving $42.62 ½ and $42.30 prize money for the victories. His battle station was as the 3rd loader at the no. 9 long gun. On September 3, 1812 he joined those who volunteered to augment Commodore John Rodgers’ squadron when a battle with a British squadron off of Boston was expected. The threatened attack did not occur.
