Early Life
Samuel Brown’s place and date of birth are not known.
Brown enlisted in the navy as an ordinary seaman on USS Constitution in Annapolis, Maryland on June 19, 1812. He was assigned to gun no. 5 as second sponger/fireman. He was promoted to able seaman sometime in 1813, but deserted later that year when the ship was in Boston.
Battles and Engagements
Brown was on board for the battles with HMS Guerriere and HMS Java , but by deserting he forfeited his right to a share of the prize money.
Brown’s date and place of death are unknown.
