Meet the Myth Makers: Hands-on Workshop & Artist Talk
Come to the Charlestown Navy Yard on October 27th and meet artists Donna Dodson and Andy Moerlei, better known as the Myth Makers, and view Beacon. On view until November 17, this 20′ tall bamboo sculpture of an osprey is a monument to Rachel Carson, the scientist/writer of Silent Spring. Her poetic book about the pesticide DDT and its effect on birds has been widely acclaimed as inspiring the environmental movement. Prior to arriving in the Navy Yard, Beacon was displayed at Head Island and is the first project of the new Harborwalk Artists in Residence (AIR) program.
In this interactive hands-on event, the artists will share their tools and techniques and work with eager learners who might want to build with bamboo as well as talk about their latest artwork. Come at 10 for an opportunity to participate, or drop in during the workshop and observe. All ages and abilities are welcome.
