#OnThisDay Paul Revere started his famous "midnight ride" in 1775. By the 1790s he was a 60-year old silversmith, merchant and foundry man. His foundry was contracted by Henry Jackson, the Boston Naval Agent in charge of obtaining materials for the building of USS Constitution, to provide copper and brass fittings for the ship. Revere's North End foundry drew down the English-made copper bolts to fasten Constitution. The foundry also provided a 242-pound bell and other fittings between 1794 and 1798. 🇺🇸

Here in Massachusetts, we are celebrating Patriots Day - commemorating the battles of Lexington & Concord and the start of a revolution in 1775. While we remember the brave people who took up arms in 1775 we also honor those who carry that banner by serving today. In Boston, we also cheer on the competitors of the Boston Marathon! It's been beautiful weather and we hope everyone had a great day. 🇺🇸 ... See MoreSee Less
