Allen Griffin’s place and date of birth are not known.
Griffin received his warrant on January 1, 1812. His rank was midshipman. He entered USS Constitution on July 11, 1812 at Norfolk, Virginia. Griffin transferred from USS Constitution to USS Chesapeake on September 13, 1812 at Boston, Massachusetts. There is no record of when he left USS Chesapeake, but also no indication that he became a prisoner of war when Chesapeake was captured by HMS Shannon on June 1, 1813.

Griffin was on board for the battle with HMS Guerriere.
Griffin received a commission as lieutenant on April 1, 1818. He transferred to Baltimore Station on August 6, 1828, but died on September 18.
