Hart’s place and date of birth are unknown.

Hart joined Constitution ’s crew as an able seaman on May 9, 1812 at the Washington Navy Yard.

Battles and Engagements

Stationed as 2nd loader and 2nd boarder on No. 11 carronade, Hart participated in the victories over HMS Guerriere on August 19, 1812 and HMS Java on December 29, 1812, and was awarded $42.62 ½ and $42.30 in prize money for the two victories. He was killed in action during the latter battle, so his prize money was paid to the administrator of his estate, Asa Higgins, of Orleans, Massachusetts.

Hart was killed in the battle against HMS Java on December 29, 1812.
