Crocker Hardin

Rank(s): Boy

Dates of Service: 4/8/1811 - 9/22/1812

Death Date: 11/31/1832

Early Life

Crocker Hardin was probably born in Virginia, but his date of birth is unknown. Hardin married Frances Catherine Dameron (born 1802) at Norfolk, Virginia on April 4, 1823.

Hardin joined Constitution ’s crew as a boy in April 8, 1811 and was discharged on September 22, 1812.

Battles and Engagements

Hardin fought in the battle against HMS Guerriere on August 19, 1812.

Not much is known of Hardin’s subsequent career. He returned to Virginia and probably served again in the navy. By 1832, he was on duty at the Washington Navy Yard, where he died on November 31 of that year. He was buried in the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC. His wife Frances returned to Norfolk, VA. She obtained a land warrant for her husband’s military services in 1855. She applied for a pension on March 13, 1878, but because of a question involving her middle initial and the fact that the application was signed with only a mark (because she had broken a finger on her right hand), the processing was slow. The pension was granted August 21, 1878. We have no record of the amount.
