Early Life

Lewis’ date and place of birth are unknown. During 1813, Lewis authorized an allotment of $6.00 per month to Mary Lewis, who was probably his wife.

Seaman Daniel Lewis joined Constitution ’s crew at the Washington Navy Yard on May 30, 1812. He left the ship sometime after February 17, 1813.

Battles and Engagements

Lewis participated in the battles with HMS Guerriere on August 19, 1812 and HMS Java on December 29, 1812. He received $42.62 ½ and $42.30 prize money for the victories. During the second battle he was stationed at long gun no. 15 on the gun deck.

Lewis’ place and date of death are unknown.
