Rank(s): Surgeon’s Mate

Dates of Service: 7/4/1812 - 9/18/1814

Death Date: 10/28/1815

Early Life

Donaldson Yeates was born in Ireland. The date of his birth is not known.

Yeates entered USS Constitution on July 4, 1812 at Annapolis, Maryland. His rank was surgeon’s mate. He transferred to USS Rattlesnake on October, 1813 at Boston, Massachusetts.

Battles and Engagements

Yeates was on board for the battles with HMS Guerriere and HMS Java.

Yeates may have already been sick with an unspecified illness when he left Constitution. On September 18, 1814, he was ordered to Sackett’s Harbor, New York, but apparently was furloughed due to his illness. He returned to his home in Kent County, Maryland where he died on October 28, 1815.
