Early Life
Frederick B. Varnum was born on July 2, 1793 in Massachusetts.
Varnum received his warrant on June 18, 1812. His rank was midshipman. He entered USS Constitution on June 24, 1813 at Boston, Massachusetts. On February 21, 1815, he transferred to the prize crew of the captured HMS Levant. He was on board when Levant was recaptured, and spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner. He was returned to Baltimore, Maryland in May, 1815.

Varnum was on board for the battle with HMS Cyane and HMS Levant.
Varnum received a commission as a lieutenant ‘s date and place of death are unknown.
