Henry Stanwood

Early Life

Henry Stanwood’s place and date of birth are not known.

Stanwood married Nancy Gibson Wharff on August 1, 1813 in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Henry Stanwood had half his pay allotted to his wife while he was on Constitution. They had four sons, (Henry, George, David and Benjamin) and two daughters, Judith Anne, and Nancy Jane. Nancy Jane Stanwood died in 1836 when she was three years old.

Stanwood entered USS Constitution as an able seaman on August 21, 1813 at Boston, Massachusetts. He was the first loader on gun no. 13. He was discharged on July 16, 1815 at Boston, Massachusetts.

Battles and Engagements

Stanwood was on board for the battle with HMS Cyane and HMS Levant.

Stanwood’s date and place of death are unknown.
