Henry Wells

Early Life

Henry Wells’s place and date of birth are not known.

Early Experience

Wells received his warrant as a midshipman on June 20, 1806. He was ordered to USS Essex on January 23, 1809, then USS Ardus. He served as an acting lieutenant on USS Oneida before a lieutenant’s commission on January 6, 1813.

 

Wells transferred as a lieutenant from the Lake Ontario squadron on June 6, 1815. During his time on board, the ship was awaiting orders. He was detached from the ship on September 12, 1815.

Wells joined USS Washington in Portsmouth, New Hampshire after leaving Constitution. In 1816, he was ordered to the Washington Navy Yard, but returned to the Portsmouth Navy Yard, from which he retired on February 8, 1820. His date and place of death are unknown.
