Hugh Groundwater’s place and date of birth are not known.
Groundwater enlisted on USS Constitution as an able seaman on November 19, 1811 at Cherbourg, France. He served as the second captain on gun no. 3. Groundwater spent four days in sick bay in May, 1812 due to “inflamed ulcer on shin & internal maladies.” He was discharged on November 24, 1813.
Battles and Engagements
Groundwater was on board for the battles with HMS Guerriere and HMS Java.
Groundwater’s date and place of death are unknown.
