Jacob Turpin was born in 1786 in New Jersey.
Turpin enlisted on March 6, 1812 at Philadelphia. His rank was private. He transferred to USS Constitution on June 11, 1812. Turpin transferred from USS Constitution at the Charlestown Navy Yard and entered USS Enterprize on August 6, 1815. He was discharged on April 30, 1817.

Turpin was on board for the battles with HMS Guerriere , HMS Java , HMS Cyane and HMS Levant .
