James B. Taylor’s place and date of birth are not known.

Taylor received his warrant on January 1, 1812. His rank was midshipman. He entered USS Constitution on December 14, 1814 at Boston, Massachusetts. He detached on July 1, 1815.

Battles and Engagements

Taylor was on board for the battle with HMS Cyane and HMS Levant.

Taylor was promoted to lieutenant on March 5, 1817, but it’s unclear where he was serving at the time. He was court martialed on May 3, 1817, and found guilty of some unspecified offense. He was suspended from duty for three months and was to be publicly reprimanded by the Commanding Naval Officer. A midshipman named Taylor drowned on March 19, 1819, but it is unclear whether it was James B. Taylor or William Taylor.
