Lanman’s place and date of birth are unknown.
Seaman James Lanman was transferred to Constitution from USS Essex on August 4, 1811. He appears to have been discharged on May 14, 1812, but reenlisted on December 8, 1813. Dissatisfied with his decision, Lanman deserted on May 1, 1814.
Battles and Engagements
Because of his service dates, Lanman missed all of Constitution ’s major engagements during the War of 1812.
