Early Life

James Reilly’s place and date of birth are not known.

Reilly entered USS Constitution as a midshipman on September 28, 1810 at Boston, Massachusetts. He left the ship temporarily when he was ordered to navigate the Wareham sloop Income into port after the vessel’s captain was lost in a gale. It’s unclear exactly when he rejoined Constitution. On July 1, 1812, he was appointed master’s mate. He was promoted on July 24, 1813 to lieutenant. Reilly detached on September 28, 1813 and was ordered to USS Wasp in 1814.

Battles and Engagements

Reilly was on board for the battles with HMS Guerriere and HMS Java.

Reilly was lost at sea from USS Wasp in 1814.
