Early Life

John Boyd’s place and date of birth are not known.

Boyd transferred to USS Constitution on July 31, 1812 at Boston,Massachusetts. His rank was able seaman. He was demoted to ordinary seaman on February 12, 1814, but it’s unclear why. He was discharged on July 5, 1814 at Boston, but re-entered Constitution two weeks later as an able seaman again. Boyd transferred to USS Congress, then at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on June 1, 1815

Battles and Engagements

Boyd was on board for the battles with HMS Guerriere, HMS Java, HMS Cyane and HMS Levant.

Boyd’s date and place of death are unknown.
