Early Life

Campbell’s place and date of birth are unknown.

John Campbell joined Constitution ’s crew as an able seaman on May 12, 1812. In 1812, he was assigned to gun no. 6, 1st sponger as a part of the gun deck, second division. He reentered the crew on August 12, 1814.

Battles and Engagements

Campbell participated in the battle with HMS Cyane and received a share of the $20,000 in prize money. He also participated in the battle with HMS Guerriere and received $42.62 ½ in prize money.

Campbell transferred to USS Congress, then at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on June 1, 1815. His place and date of death are unknown.
