Early Life

John H. Packett was born in 1791 in Virginia.

He was married to Fanny Packett. They had a son, John Bainbridge Packett, and a daughter, Mary Ann Packett.

Packett transferred to USS Constitution as a midshipman on June 17, 1810. On February 19, 1811, he seconded a duel in which midshipman Charles W. Fowle was killed. As a result of his role in the incident, Packett was transferred to USS Argus from USS Constitution between February 21 and March 9, 1811. He rejoined Constitution on October 16, 1812. Packett received a commission as lieutenant on June 24, 1813. He was appointed to command USS Ariel on September, 1813.

Battles and Engagements

Packett was on board for the battle with HMS Java.

Packett died on March 29, 1820 in Charlestown, Virginia.
