Early Life

Jordan’s place and date of birth are unknown.

Seaman Jordan enlisted on May 4, 1812 and joined Constitution ’s crew on May 9, 1812 at the Washington Navy Yard. On June 18, 1812, the day the United States declared war on Great Britain, Jordan deserted but was captured the next day. He continued to serve on the ship until sometime after February 17, 1813.

Battles and Engagements

He participated in victories over HMS Guerriere on August 19, 1812 and HMS Java on December 29, 1812, receiving $42.62 ½ and $42.30 in prize money for the victories. During the second engagement he served as the second sponger for gun no. 10 on the gun deck.
