Early Life

John, Jr. Taylor was born in 1793. His place of birth is not known.

Early Experience

Taylor received a commission as midshipman sometime between June 20, 1806 and November 15, 1809. He was ordered to join USS President sometime between March 6, 1810 and April 27, 1810. He served on USS John Adams between January 9, 1811 and March 17, 1811. On November 27, 1811 he joined USS Hornet at New York.

Taylor transferred to USS Constitution on June 17, 1810 at Hampton Roads, Virginia. His rank was midshipman. He transferred from USS Constitution to USS Essex on November 11, 1810. Taylor re-entered USS Constitution on April 12, 1812. On December 1, 1814, he was nominated acting lieutenant. He transferred from USS Constitution on February 22, 1815.

Battles and Engagements

Taylor was on board for the battles with HMS Guerriere , HMS Cyane and HMS Levant .

Taylor served on USS Peacock in 1816. He resigned as a lieutenant on July 31, 1823. Taylor died in 1824 in Virginia.
