Early Life

John Lindsey’s date and place of birth are unknown.

Seaman Lindsey enlisted on April 27, 1812 and joined Constitution on May 20, 1812 at the Washington Navy Yard. On June 9, 1812, he and Seaman John Bivins deserted but were apprehended on the same day. On July 17,1812, he fell overboard while the ship was sailing in a light breeze off the coast of Nova Scotia. The ship was able to stop, launch small boats and retrieve him.

Battles and Engagements

Lindsey participated in the battles with HMS Guerriere on August 19, 1812 and with HMS Java on December 29, 1812. During the second battle he served as 2nd sponger to carronade no. 6.

Lindsey’s place and date of death are unknown.
