Ling enlisted in the Navy on June 24, 1812 at Baltimore, Maryland and reported for duty aboard Constitution on July 2, 1812 while the ship lay at Annapolis, Maryland. He was one of ten men recruited by Midshipman Charles W. Morgan. It is not known when Ling left the ship.
Battles and Engagements
Ling participated in the victory over HMS Guerriere on August 19, 1812 and received $42.62 ½ in prize money.
