Early Life

John Tanner’s place and date of birth are not known. He is referred to as James in some records.

Tanner entered USS Constitution as an ordinary seaman on August 5, 1813 at Boston, Massachusetts. He was on the starboard watch, assigned to the fore top and was the third loader on the no. 15 gun. He was discharged on June 13, 1815.

Battles and Engagements

Tanner was on board for the battle with HMS Cyane and HMS Levant.

Tanner’s date and place of death are unknown.
