Early Life
John Vogel was born in Boston, Massachusetts.
Vogel allotted half his pay to Abigail Vogell, but it her relationship is unknown.
Vogel entered USS Constitution on October 28, 1812. His rank was ordinary seaman. During the battle with HMS Java on December 29, 1812, he was wounded in the left arm and and suffered a compound fracture of the right leg. He was declared disabled, and was officially discharged from the Navy on September 3, 1813.
