Wood enlisted in the US Navy at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and joined Constitution ’s crew as an able seaman on July 2, 1812, while the ship lay at Annapolis, Maryland. He deserted in Boston, Massachusetts September 20, 1812.
Battles and Engagements
Wood served on board during the battle with HMS Guerriere on August 19, 1812, but by deserting, he forfeited his share of the $50,000 in prize money awarded the victors.
