Recruited at Norfolk, Virginia by Lieutenant Charles W. Morgan on June 30, 1812, Ongrain joined Constitution ’s crew as an able seaman at Annapolis, Maryland on July 2, 1812.
Battles and Engagements
Ongrain was on board for the battle with HMS Guerriere on August 19, 1812. During the December 29, 1812 engagement with HMS Java he served as third sponger to gun no. 5 on the gun deck, but unfortunately was killed.
