Early Life

Jonathan Roundy was born in 1777 in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Early Experience

Roundy was merchant mariner in Marblehead prior to joining the navy. He was serving on board the merchant ship Empress, when it was captured by the HMS Rover on November 30, 1812. He was a prisoner of war until June 8, 1813, when he was released in a prisoner exchange.

 

Roundy entered USS Constitution on August 7, 1813 at Boston, Massachusetts, two months after being released as a British prisoner. His rank was able seaman. He was discharged on July 31, 1815.

Battles and Engagements

Roundy was on board for the battle with HMS Cyane and HMS Levant.

Roundy’s date and place of death are unknown.
