Early Life
Joseph Furnes was born in 1782 in Marblehead, Massachusetts
According to his Seaman’s Protection certificates, Furnes had dark hair and a dark complexion. He may have been 5′ tall.
Furnes entered USS Constitution on August 27, 1813 at Boston, Massachusetts. His rank was able seaman. He was in the larboard watch, stationed on the main top.. On July 3, 1814, he was promoted to quarter gunner, after which he was quartered as the 1st sponger on the no. 2 carronade. Furnes was discharged on August 21, 1815.
