Gardner entered USS Constitution on August 13, 1813 at Boston, Massachusetts. His rank was able seaman. He was on the larboard watch, assigned to the mizen top. In battle, he served as the 2nd sponger for the no. 7 gun. He was discharged on July 24, 1815.
