Early Life

Joseph Richardson’s place and date of birth are not known.

Richardson had his pay allotted to Anne Stewart, but her relationship to him is unknown.

Richardson entered USS Constitution on June 9, 1812 at Washington Navy Yard. His rank was quarter gunner. He re-entered USS Constitution on August 18, 1813. He transferred from USS Constitution to the prize crew of either HMS Cyane or HMS Levant on February 23, 1815.

Battles and Engagements

Richardson was on board for the battles with HMS Guerriere, HMS Java, HMS Cyane and HMS Levant.

In 1819, Richardson was court martialed and found guilty of desertion. He was sentenced to 200 lashes. It’s unclear where he was serving at the time. Richardson’s date and place of death are unknown.
