Early Life

Leonard Feltz was born in 1782 in Pennsylvania. Prior to joining the Marines, he had been a coach maker.

In the 1810 Federal Census, he was listed as living in Germantown, Pennsylvania “with adult women and a boy under 16.”

On his enlistment, he was described as being 5′ 10″ tall, having black eyes, black hair and a sallow complexion.

Feltz enlisted Marine Corps on April 1, 1812 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His rank was private. He reported to USS Constitution on June 11, 1812 at Washington Navy Yard. He was detached from USS Constitution on July 28, 1815 at Boston, and discharged from the Marine Corps on April 30, 1817.

Battles and Engagements

Feltz was on board for the battles with HMS Guerriere, HMS Java, HMS Cyane and HMS Levant.

Feltz’s date and place of death are unknown.
