Major Sturges’s place and date of birth are not known.
Sturges married Abigail Burr on December 25, 1789 in Westport, Connecticut. He had half his pay allotted to her while he was on USS Constitution.
Sturges entered USS Constitution as an able seaman on June 10, 1812 at Washington Navy Yard. He was on the larboard watch, assigned to the fore top station and served as first captain of the no. 2 gun crew. He was discharged on June 13, 1814.
Battles and Engagements
Sturges was on board for the battles with HMS Guerriere and HMS Java.
Sturges’s date and place of death are unknown.
