Nathaniel Salkins was born in 1792 in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
Salkins entered USS Constitution as an able seaman on August 24, 1813 at Boston, Massachusetts. He was on the larboard watch assigned to the mizzen top. He was transferred to the prize crew of either HMS Cyane or HMS Levant on February 20, 1815.
