Robert Hart

Rank(s): Able Seaman

Dates of Service: 5/1/1813 - 12/11/1813

Birth Date: 1788

Early Life

Robert Hart was born in 1788 in Massachusetts.

Hart had a wife, Mary, born in 1790 in Massachusetts. The date of their marriage is not known. They had a son, William Henry, who was born in 1829 after Robert and Mary had relocated to Illinois. He became a farmer.

Hart enlisted on May 1, 1813 at Salem, Massachusetts. His rank was able seaman. He entered USS Constitution on June 24, 1813 at Boston, Massachusetts. He was honorably discharged on December 11, 1913, due to injuries received in the line of duty — apparently involving an accident with a water cask.

After being discharged from Constitution, Hart eventually relocated to Scott County, Illinois. It is not known when he died, but he was still receiving a Navy pension of $8 a month as of January, 1872.
