Early Life

Dunn’s place and date of birth are unknown.

Dunn enlisted in the US Navy on June 26, 1812. He joined Constitution ’s crew as an able seaman on July 3, 1812 while the ship lay at anchor off Annapolis, Maryland. He was transferred from the ship in April 1813.

Battles and Engagements

Dunn participated in victories over HMS Guerriere on August 19, 1812 and HMS Java on December 29, 1812, receiving $42.62 ½ and $42.30 in prize money for the victories. During the second battle he worked the train tackle of gun no. 9 on the gun deck.

Dunn was transferred from Constitution and joined a draft of men sent to the Great Lakes in April 1813. He served on board USS Trippe at the Battle of Lake Erie. Dunn’s place and date of death are unknown.
