Early Life

Thomas Nowland was born on February 12, 1792 in Marblehead, Massachusetts to Andrew and Anna Nowland.

Nowland entered USS Constitution on May 12, 1812 at Washington Navy Yard. He was an ordinary seaman on the larboard watch, and was assigned to fore top. On October 18, 1814, he was court martialed for mutinous conduct, and sentenced to 100 lashes. He deserted USS Constitution on November 20, 1814.

Battles and Engagements

Nowland was on board for the battles with HMS Guerriere and HMS Java.

Nowland’s date and place of death are unknown.
