Early Life

Thomas Scipion’s place and date of birth are not known.

Scipion entered USS Constitution as an able seaman on June 9, 1812 at Washington Navy Yard. He was on the larboard watch and served as first sponger on gun no. 8. He was discharged on June 3, 1814.

Battles and Engagements

Scipion was on board for the battles with HMS Guerriere and HMS Java.

In a letter to the Secretary of the Navy (April 1, 1820), surgeon John A. Kearney, who had served with Scipion on Constitution mentioned that Scipion was old and an object fit to receive the benefits of an asylum or any occupation in the Navy Yard. Scipion did not receive a pension. The date and place of his death are unknown.
