Early Life

Tobias Fernald was born on September 8, 1782, likely in Kittery, Maine. His father was Tobias Fernald, and his mother was Elizabeth Mitchell, both from Kittery. Fernald was married to Abigail Chambers on May 8, 1806 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Abigail was housekeeper from Kittery, Maine. They had three daughters and two sons: Sophia Ann, Lydia, John, Pelatiah, and William Henry.

Fernald entered USS Constitution on July 8, 1813 at Boston, Massachusetts. His rank was able seaman. He died on USS Constitution on March 12, 1815.

Battles and Engagements

Fernald was on board for the battle with HMS Cyane and HMS Levant .
