Early Experience

An American merchant ship’s master, Dumas had been captured by the Royal Navy and taken aboard HMS Guerriere prior to the British ship’s engagement with USS Constitution on August 19, 1812.

Orne was received on board USS Constitution from Guerriere while at sea on August 19, 1812. He was not enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and was instead considered a supernumerary. Orne disembarked USS Constitution on August 31, 1812 at Boston, Massachusetts.

Orne was a prisoner on board HMS Guerriere during the battle.
