William F. Holmes’s place and date of birth are not known.
Holmes enlisted on February 16, 1809. His rank was able seaman. He entered USS Constitution on January 16, 1810 at Norfolk, Virginia. On February 12, 1810, he was promoted to Quartermaster. Holmes was discharged on March 6, 1812. He re-entered USS Constitution on August 15, 1813, and was discharged on July 16, 1815.

Holmes was on board for the battles with HMS Cyane , HMS Guerriere , HMS Java , HMS Levant and HMS Pictou.
Holmes’s date and place of death are unknown.
