Early Life

William Mason Hunter was born in Pennsylvania.

Early Experience

Hunter received warrant on January 16, 1809. His rank was midshipman. He served on the USS President and USS Vixen before being promoted to lieutenant on July 24, 1813.

Hunter reported USS Constitution on October 10, 1813 at Boston, Massachusetts. His rank was midshipman. He detached on June 5, 1815.

Battles and Engagements

Hunter was on board for the battles with HMS Cyane and HMS Levant, and the capture of HMS Pictou.

Hunter served as master commandant on the USS Warren, and 2nd sailing master on USS Guerriere before being promoted to captain on February 9, 837. Hunter died on March 5, 1849 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
