A Fresh Lens on an Iconic Ship

Exploring Old Ironsides invites visitors to see USS Constitution in a new way through the photography of Greg M. Cooper, who has spent more than two decades documenting the ship for the USS Constitution Museum. Drawn from years of photographing Constitution in changing light, from rare vantage points, and in moments most visitors never witness, the exhibition reveals the Ship through striking details, dramatic perspectives, and unexpected views.

Set within the Museum’s renewed Special Exhibits gallery space, shaped by natural light and the historic architecture of the original Navy Yard pump house, the exhibition offers a new way to encounter one of America’s most enduring symbols.

About the Exhibit

Exploring Old Ironsides is a special photography exhibition featuring images by longtime Museum photographer Greg M. Cooper. The exhibition highlights USS Constitution in striking and unexpected ways, from sweeping views in dry dock and dramatic moments on the water to quiet reflections, hidden interiors, and fleeting weather conditions. Together, the images invite visitors to look closely and discover something new about a ship they may think they already know.
