USS Constitution Museum Selected to Participate in Harvard Business School Association of Boston’s Community Action Partners Program

CHARLESTOWN, MA (November 6, 2018)—The USS Constitution Museum has been selected from a competitive pool of 34 applicants to receive a pro bono consulting engagement by Harvard Business School Association of Boston’s Community Action Partners (CAP). The study is scheduled to begin this fall.

For the past 18 months the USS Constitution Museum has been working with the National Park Service, U.S. Navy, and Waltham-based design firm Sasaki Partners on a plan to make the Charlestown Navy Yard experience more unified, engaging, and relevant. The CAP study will look at the museum’s proposal to move to the Hoosac Warehouse next to USS Constitution.

“The move presents many new opportunities for immersing our visitors—nearly half a million each year—in the legacy of ‘Old Ironsides’ and the broader narrative of naval and maritime history,” says USS Constitution Museum President Anne Grimes Rand. “The CAP study will provide us with the necessary insight into making this transition a success!”

Community Action Partners (CAP) is a volunteer organization of Harvard Business School and Kennedy School alumni helping Boston-area nonprofits apply management skills to their business challenges. Each year CAP volunteers provide an average of 8,000 hours of consulting, equivalent to approximately $1.5 to $2.0 million in pro bono services to worthy nonprofits. These volunteers offer a powerful blend of business expertise and passion for making a difference in the community. CAP projects result in incredible impact for nonprofit clients and are a uniquely rewarding volunteer experience for alumni.

“We are very pleased to work with the USS Constitution Museum this year,” states CAP Executive Director Kathy Le. “The museum is doing critical work for the greater Boston community. The nature of their business challenge, mission, and social impact make them a very attractive partner for our alumni volunteer teams.”
