Will the Museum's four unmanned sailboats, equipped with a GPS tracker, make it across the Atlantic Ocean?
View current locationsAbout the USS Constitution Museum Miniboats
The Museum has a fleet of four miniboats: unmanned, five-foot sailboats equipped with a solar GPS tracker. All were made in partnership with Boston Public School students. Hope and Special were made by 3rd graders at the Donald McKay School in winter 2022. Teal Turtle and HK Pride were made by 4th graders at Harvard-Kent Elementary in winter 2020.
Before their voyage, the miniboats were ceremonially launched into Boston Harbor at the USS Constitution. The boats were then brought to Florida and launched into the Atlantic Ocean Gulf Stream by the Sea Education Association. Teal Turtle and HK Pride landed in Newfoundland in summer 2021 and are awaiting relaunch.
