Matchbox
In the first half of the 20th century, America’s Own Match Co. produced a series of commercial matchboxes featuring well known patriotic American imagery. This type of matchbox, which features the USS Constitution and contains more than 40 strike-on-box wooden matches, was produced in the 1920s amidst nationwide efforts to restore “Old Ironsides” to the ship’s War of 1812 configuration. The matchbox includes an image of the ship under full sail that is labeled “CONSTITUTION.”
