Ann Hull’s Earrings

Anchor Icon

This pair of gold and topaz-like pendant earrings belonged to Ann McCurdy (Hart) Hull, wife of Captain Isaac Hull. Ann and Isaac met sometime in the autumn of 1812, when Isaac was enjoying his newfound celebrity from USS Constitution‘s August 19, 1812 victory over HMS Guerriere. They married on January 2, 1813 and were together thirty years, until Isaac’s death in 1843.

Pendant-style earrings, composed of gemstones encircled with metal, were fashionable in the Early Victorian or Romantic Period of the 1830s and 1840s. Ann Hull’s earrings includes a flower motif surmounting the elegantly graceful teardrop pendant.
