Shot Calipers
These brass calipers were made by George Stimpson of Charlestown, Massachusetts for USS Constitution. Calipers were used by gunners aboard naval vessels to measure the shot (cannonballs) to determine their size. Both sides are marked for measuring shot of various size. These calipers are also marked: “U.S. Ship Constitution” and “George Stimpson Charlestown.”
